Question from someone who wants to join your ranks

Post by DerDude1138 » Sat Aug 12, 2017 10:12 pm

Hello,

As a huge Star Wars I always wanted to be a part of the 501st and before i fill out my application I wanted to get some help from people who are way more expirianced than I am.
So I bought myself a Gunner Helmet form Shepperton and I wanted to aska couple of Questions.

1. How do I best make the Imperial Symbol for the Front of the Dome?
2. What is the best way to fasten my head inside the Helmet? Maybe with the insides of a Construction Helmet?
3. I notice a small gap in the side of the Lence, shall I close that? (Picters can be provided if wanted)

Sorry if some of the Questions have already been answered, but I wanted to make sure that everything is in the 501st norms.

Anyways I already thak you for your replys and i hope that maybe you can help me.

Best Regards,

Mark

Hi Mark, welcome aboard!

1. We recommend purchasing a 3" vinyl logo and affixing that to the helmet. You can get these off of eBay and the are fairly inexpensive.
2. You can use a hard hat suspension system. I use the styrofoam from a bike helmet that is held in place with velcro. You can also use foam helmet pads available from most airsoft vendors and amazon.
3. You can close it. We do recommend leaving small, relatively unnoticeable gaps to provide some air flow. It can get a little stuffy in the helmet, even with fans.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the reply. I think I'm gonna go for the Hardhead lineng, have to figure out how i set it up though. But Some other questions poped up.

One of them would be, is the Visor susposed to be alined with the eyes or am I looking trough it a bit from an angle?

And would you recomand the chin strap or not? Since I have a rather big head and I am afraid that the chin would stick out.

Thanks again! :D

The chin strap shouldn't stick out, as the bottom of the jawbone should come down to your next. It should not choke you, of course, but there should not be a big gap. Here is a link to the CRL if you need to refer to it: http://databank.501st.com/databank/Cost ... ial_gunner
You certainly don't need it to be there, anyway. Mine came with one, and I cut it out!

My visor is straight, but it doesn't really matter if it's at an angle so long as it looks right when you are wearing it. Is the visor itself angled, or is it from the way the helmet sits on your head?

As for the hardhat liner, a lot of people use them. I tried it, but it didn't sit well in my particular helmet. I wound up making foam inserts with which I am quite happy!

Hey,

No, by angle I mean the way it sits on my head

You can have the helmet sit with nose slightly up or the with the top surface of the jawbone parallel to the ground. That is personal preference.

Good luck on your approval process! Excellent choice for a helmet, with Shepperton you're already half way approved! 8)
I have hardhat lining on mine held in place by duct tape, worked great for over 4 years now.
SDS helmet used to come with copper colored antenna, is that still the case?
If so, the coating is easy to wipe off with sandpaper (or maybe you already did).
That's just one of the details left often unnoticed when applying for approval, like the square buttons.

Please do share pics of the helmet when done, it's a beauty of a helmet!
